Tournaments and Events

On the 4th of September these 2 top international music stars gave a concert in the football stadion Son Moix in Palma de Mallorca which was visited by more then 20.000 fans.

The concert started at 20:00 with Andrea Bocelli who sang famous titles from the operas of Verdi, Bizzet and Puccini. The song “o Sole Mio” must have been heard in all of Palma city as the stadion was vibrating and the audience estatic, shouting “bravo Maestro”.  He also sang the popular Spanish songs “Granada” and “Bésame mucho”, and his number one song “Time to say goodbye”. More then once the audience jumped to a standing ovation and gave an applause that lasted for minutes.

The music was performed by the Balearic symphonic orchestra which made this one and a half hour concert overwhelmingly impressive.  After a 40 minutes break during which the 50 meters wide stage was reset, Elton John started together with his band a concert that rocked the stadion and lasted for 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The 63 year old star started with a few songs from his new album and then played his evergreens such as “Don’t let the sun go down on me”, “Sorry seems to be the hardest word” and “Candle in the Wind”. The version of “Rocket man” lasted 10 minutes and Elton John and his band gave incredible solos on the piano, drums and guitar. They proved again that they are true creators of world class music. Elton John told the audience it was his first time on Mallorca and congratulated Spain with their football world cup title. The concert was concluded with “circle of life” during which parts of the movie “the lion king” were shown on the large screen and as final “Your song” which most of the thousands of visitors sang along wholeheartedly.

One of Mallorca’s most popular charity golf tournaments, the Renault Llucmajor Charity Golf Tournament, took place on the 17th of July and was a huge success. Rafael Nadal was one of the star participants.

This was the 6th edition of this tournament organized by the Renault Llucmajor company in aid of the ADAA (Asociación de Ayuda al Acompañante del Enfermo de las Islas Baleares), a non-profit organization which supports the families of people with serious illnesses.

There was a great turn out of players with over 140 people taking part, and the VIP player of the day was Rafael Nadal, native Mallorcan and current world number one tennis player. Rafa is a great golf player and won the tournament in 2009.

The Stableford competition took place on the Son Antem West Course and was won by Paul McGrath and Pep Sánchez. The event ended with a gala dinner and a raffle. The exact amount of funds raised for the ADAA has not yet been announced but we can already say that the event was a great success.
