July 2010

One of Mallorca’s most popular charity golf tournaments, the Renault Llucmajor Charity Golf Tournament, took place on the 17th of July and was a huge success. Rafael Nadal was one of the star participants.

This was the 6th edition of this tournament organized by the Renault Llucmajor company in aid of the ADAA (Asociación de Ayuda al Acompañante del Enfermo de las Islas Baleares), a non-profit organization which supports the families of people with serious illnesses.

There was a great turn out of players with over 140 people taking part, and the VIP player of the day was Rafael Nadal, native Mallorcan and current world number one tennis player. Rafa is a great golf player and won the tournament in 2009.

The Stableford competition took place on the Son Antem West Course and was won by Paul McGrath and Pep Sánchez. The event ended with a gala dinner and a raffle. The exact amount of funds raised for the ADAA has not yet been announced but we can already say that the event was a great success.

Every year the Mallorca Marriott Son Antem Resort organizes an American Independence Day Party. This year it took place on the terrace of our Restaurant El Olivar, where our guests could enjoy a traditional BBQ dinner and musical performances by “Daniyella” with her Country Sound and “Luis Javaloya & Friends” with their Latin Fusion.  There was also an exhibition of more than 10 burning wheel Harley Davidson motorbikes in the gardens and a big firework display finale.

We interviewed a Mallorcan resident who was at the party:

Marriott:  What did you like the most?

A.Bibiloni: The food, there was a lot of variety and everything was delicious!

M.: Do you think that there should be more of this kind of party?

A.B.: Yes, they are a good way to get people to come and get to know the resort and learn something about American customs at the same time. This type of event should be more publicized.

M.: What stood out about the evening?

A.B.: It was quite spectacular, like everything Americans do, but what stood out the most for me was the great atmosphere amongst the staff and how comfortable and welcome they made the guests feel. My wife experienced this first hand. She stood beside one of the Harley bikes for me to take a picture of her and burnt her leg on the exhaust pipe which was still hot. We asked the waiter for some ice and the team not only brought us ice but also a special ointment for her to put on her burn.

M.: Will you come again next year?

A. B.: Of course; in fact I am going to try to be free on the 4th of July so I can come again and hopefully bring some friends with me too.

M.: Thank you very much for your time!

A.B.:  My pleasure.

With more than 20 golf courses and a good network of flight connections, Mallorca is one of the most popular golf destinations in Europe. Our two 18 hole Son Antem Golf Courses are surrounded by nature and our Golf Academy offers classes for beginners and experienced players.

Our two golf courses are only 5 minutes away if you are staying at the Mallorca Marriott Son Antem Golf Resort & Spa. The East Course was built on an old hunting property and you will see plenty of birds and other animals during your golf round. People say that the east course with its wide fairways and flat greens is more suitable for beginners and intermediate players but many experienced players also enjoy playing this course.

The Championship Course Son Antem West is more challenging and has breathtaking views of the Randa mountain. Golfers need a handicap of 35 (ladies) and 27 (gentlemen) to play the course. In November last year one of the PGA Tour of Spain Tournaments took place here. We were delighted to host one of the most important national golf tournaments in the world, this time won by Jesús María Arruti.
